OPHIR NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPHIR. May 2, BLACKS SCHOOL COMMITTEE. There was a fair attendance of householders at the annual meeting in the school on April 22. Mr John M‘Kmght presided. The new committee was elected as follow:—Mrs Holden, Mr Holden, Messrs W. Drake, E. V. Pitches, and W. Watson. The committee met afterwards and elected Mr Pitches as president and Mr Holden secretary and treasurer. LADIES’ HOCKEY. The first interclub matches of the north end_ of the Maniototo Ladies’ Hockey Association were played on Saturday. The local club. (Omakau), captained by Miss Hannah Flannery, played the Lauder Club, at Omakau and won by 4 goals to 2. Mrs M'Lachlan scored both goals for the visitors; three of Omakau’s were got by Miss Mary Donnelly, and one by Miss Peggy Craig. Omakau forwards showed good combination for the first match of the season. Mr William Least was referee. MANUHERIKIA BRASS BAND. The local brass band, which was formed six months ago, and which includes members from Chatto Creek, Matakanui, Omakau and Ophir adopted a name at a meeting on Monday, April 29. when the competition which has been under way for some months came to and end. Mr C. L. Caldwell, chairman of the Provisional Committee, presided. The secretary, Mr R. C Craig. reported having received J 4 competition cards, each with Is and suggestions for a name. Voting cards" were distributed to the 20 members of the band present who voted preferentially bv the numbers 1 to 3.
