CHINESE CARNIVAL.
ANOTHER CROWDED HOUSE. The Chinese carnival, which was opened on Wednesday evening in His Majesty’s Theatre, was continued last night, when every seat in the theatre was occupied. The object of the carnival—the raising of funds for the St. John Ambulance Brigade—is.a particularly worthy one and is fully deserving of continued support. The stage entertainment was again presented, as on the previous evening, in two parts. The first part consists of a terpsichorean and vocal presentation entitled “ Before the Buddha,” The , scene is laid in a Buddhist temple, and the curtain rises at dawn, when pilgrims from the east and west come to pay homage to Buddha. Buddhist priests and ritual dancers mingle with tourists from the west. Norman Lemon, Jack Nelson, and Mollie Andrews are the vocalists, while Gladys Crossan, Dali Austen, and Fred Wauchop, assisted by the company, lead the dancing. On the second part of the programme dancing is the chief form of entertainment. The “ Doll Dance ” is nicely presented by the children, while “ Laugh, Clown, Laugh,” is an amusing sketch by Billie Mills and Fred Wauchop. Gladys Crossan is also seen in a Grecian Warrior Dance. Sybil Thompson, Gladys Crossan, and Tui Salt, each assisted by the company, present the three items which comprise the finale. The bazaar section of the carnival is housed in Fullers’ Hall, where many stalls, all artistically decorated, did excellent business during the evening. A cabaret is held in Victoria Hall, the music being supplied by the Kapai Orchestra. _ ' The carnival will be open again this evening.
