CONCERT AT MOSGIEL.
The St. Hilda Band, assisted by friends, gave a concert last night in the Coronation Hall, Mosgiel, in aid of the Mosgiel Municipal Band, There was a good attendance, and the band’s funds should benefit to a good extent. The mayor (Mr J. P. Walls), who presided, welcomed the visiting band arm the other entertainers. The St. Hilda Band, he said, showed a fine spirit in coming to the help of their brother bond In Mosgiel. Mr Walls explained that he was vacating the mayora’ chair in a few days in favour of his successor (Mr W. E, M’Lean), and he took that opportunity of publicly thanking all who had assisted him while he had occupied the office of mayor. The Mosgiel Band had at all times rendered excellent service to the community, and he could not omit a special word of thanks to them. The following programme was rendered with much success Cornet march, “ Shumadinska,” St. Hilda Band; contest hymn, “ Nearer My God to Thee,’ St. Hilda Band; solos, “Bird Songs at Eventide ” and “ For .ou Alone,” Mr D Fogarty; comet duet, “Ida and Dot, Messrs George Christie and John Logan; violin solo, “ Souvenir,” Mias Dmmm: test selection, “Lorenzo,” St. Hilda Band; solo, “ Flight of Ages,” Mrs T. D. Rogers; waltz, “ Syringa," St Hilda Band; solos, “Up from Somerset ” and “Trooper Johnny Ludlow.” Mr BRomerill; fox trot, selected, St Hilda Band; solo, “ The Top Hat,” Miss Ray Stubbs; descriptive selection, “ The Sailor’s Life,” St Hilda Baud; march, “ Dunedin,” St. Hilda Band. Miss Kathleen Whelan was the accompanist. Mr James Dixon conducted the St Hilda Band.
