LIFE IN THE ANTARCTIC
1 THE BYRD EXPEDITION. GYMNASIUM IN THE SNOW. [By Russell Owen.] Copyright, 1928, by the New York Times Company .and St. Louis PostDespatch. All Rights for Publication Reserved Throughout the World. Wireless to New York Times. BAY OF WHALES, April 29. It is 40dcg below zero, but it seems much colder. There is speculation as to the cause. It seems colder outdoors than when it was 50deg below recently, and there is a feeling of dampness in the air. A gymnasium has been made in the snow by digging down and making low walls with blocks of ice, then putting on a covering of canvas. Balchen and Strom box there every day.
