The Public Trustee states that the £20,000 offered for investment in the Auckland Power Board loan debentures is not from the funds of the Public Trust Office, but on behalf of a client of the office. PALMERSTON N., May 1. In the. Magistrate’s Court Charles William Norman, a labourer, of -Levin, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for the theft of a cycle valued at £lO. WELLINGTON May 1. Jean Evelyn Larsen (aged 17) and Percy Clarke alias Laraonte (aged 25) were found sleeping in an empty, house in Moir street. They were to-day charged with being there witlioni ‘ lawful excuse. Clarke has a record, for theft, breaking and entering and theft, and breach of the peace, and it was stated that the girl had been knocking round North Island towns for the past nine months, and until recently wa- living with a man as his wife. The mother was living with a man at Hastings, and th father was a resident of Dunedin. She was convicted and ordered to remain at the Salvation Army Horoi until her child is born. Clarke got three months’ hard labour. Douglas Milligan (aged 31), a clerk, who was extradited from Australia, was charged with the theft of £490 7s 7d from Dougall Coombs and Co. He pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence. TIMARU, May 1.
