(Fbom Ocr Own CoEEEspojrnEirr.) . QUEENSTOWN, April 30. THE WEATHER. ■ -A break occurred yesterday in the, long spell of fine'weather, hut to-day has been btight and sunny again. A certain amount of snow also fell'on the ranges. This; has made a wonderful background: for the charming range of autumn tints that are to.be seen on. every hand. FOOTBALL.. The first senior cup.match of the season was played at Arrow-town on Saturday between Queenstown and Arrowtown teams. The visitors, were completely overwhelmed by the home team, the scores , being 38 to nil. Mr .A. Jackways was referee. . Arrowtown and Queenstown juniors also met the' same - afternoon, when the latter were beaten by 13 points to 3. A meeting of : the Wakatipu Football Sub-Union was held last week, Mr W. Warring presiding. Transfers of A. C. Erridge, J. Mawdsley, J. Harper, J. Anderson, and J. D. Baird to the Arrow Club were granted.—The secretary was instructed to write' to the district schools in regard to school competitions.—lt.was resolved that' letters of appreciation, of their .past attendances at macthes be sent to the district doctors, also that they be sent complimentary tickets for.the current season's games.—The secretary was asked to write to Mr Baird, of Invercargill, asking him if he would act as the subunions delegate on the Southland Union. —lt was decided that the Vincent SubUnion be approached regarding the playing of a match in Lake County during the season. . GOLF. ' On. Saturday the men’s Belper - match was won by F. Stoop, whose card read 88 (8),-80. The ■ nest: best banded in were: A. H. Cdoke, 90 (8), 82; A. F. Griffin, 103 (18), 85; N. Gilfcison, 98 (12), 86; W. Harper, 104 (18),.86. the best score in-the ladies’ section was made-,.by Mrs L.. Mann with.,so. PARISHIONERS’ MEETING. The annual meeting"of the parishioners of 'St., Peter’s Church. Queenstown." was held in the Parish Hall on Friday night, the Rev. W. ,W. Powell, presiding. . The vicar made a report on his work m 'the. parochial - ' district' since 'lie took charge in December. .The churchwardens alsosubmitted a comprehensive ■‘review of' the year’s .activities. Feeling reference was > made ; to the loss - sustained by the church in 'the death' of Canon’ Parata, and 1 sympathy ;was expressed with his widow and- family. .‘The report.expressed regret that the financial position »f; the church was at present' rather - straitened, partly owing ,to the various vicissitudes of the past. year. It was made a strong recommendation to the incoming vestry : that a big effort be made to retrench in some way so'that'the present uphill fight might be - relieved.—While appreciation of the 1 services ■ rendered 1 by the curate, the Rev. D ; V. - Whitlock, was expressed, it-. was decided that ■if- be 'suggested 1 to the, combined- vestry-of the -parish that representations. be l made to - the-bishop on- the 'matter, -asking-that he 1 review the appointment owing to the pa rish - feeling it incumbent on it to retrench. GENERAL. .J.-,,:' ■-. .; A most successful social and -dance in aid of. the funds , of -the .. Arthur’s Point School was held in the school Uast Friday evening, about •70 persons being present. Some Dunedin musical talent was available and the items- rendered -by, these visitors, as’ well' as ’by : performers front other parte of the district, 1 proved, a feature of the programme. The dance -music -was supplied by an orchestra comprising Miss Elsie Eraser (piano), 'Miss .Molly Percy (violin), Mr M. Angelo (cornet), and. Air G. Harbrow . (banjo). -j Mr AV.
