CLYDE NOTES.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) CLYDE, April 30. THE WEATHER. Over the week-end a decided ■ change was experienced in the weather conditions. A drizzling, rain set in which became heavy later and continued until last night, the temperature suggesting wintry conditions. A cold, biting wind now prevails, and snow is thick on the high ranges. HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING. The annual householders’ meeting had a much better attendance this year. The statement of accounts revealed a very satisfactory ' position. -Nominations being in excess of vacancies, the following committee was elected by ballot:— Messrs H. E. Stevens, A, Wilson, J. L. Davidson, D. Gillies, and W. Hecnan. Messrs Stevens and Gillies were appointed chairman and secretary respectively. . ANZAC DAY. The customary united service on Anzac Day was held; at the Town Hall. Ah appropriate address was delivered by the Rev., A. B. Pywell. After the service, a procession, headed by the local Girl Guides, proceeded to the local monument, when wreaths were placed upon the memorial and a minute’s silence observed. HOCKEY CLUB. _ , A very successful social, under the auspices of the local Hockey Club, took place last Friday. evening. The club's funds will materially benefit from the effort. During' the evening a presentation was handed Mrs F. Caterer, who had been coach, of the team and is now leaving the district. A further presentation was-made to Miss Annan on her retirement from tlie secretaryship after several years of notable service. This year the club, will.be without some of its best players, but there is very considerable enthusiasm about the-sea-son's, prospects.’. The first match will be played at' Cromwell on Saturday. GOLF. In fine weather the golf season was opened in the presence of a, large gathering of members and visitors. Mr F." R. Bould is the new. president,. and Mr J. L. Davidson secretary. ‘ COUNTY COUNCIL' - The ordinary monthly meeting of the Vincent' County Council was held’ at the Council Chambers on Friday last, the chairman (Cr James Ritchie) presiding. • The chairman announced that as a result of a - report by the Highways Board the schedule of county' 'works would hare to be reduced. He stated that. the. boai’d had agreed to supply a plane, which will be employed in reducing, the corrugations appearing oil 'the various roads.. This experiment, if successful, will overcome a serious problem which is assuming alarming- proportions. ; . ... - . It was decided to adopt .the suggestion of the Cromwell Borough. Council that the projecting rock on The road near the railway station should be removed. The Public Works Department is to be asked to attend to this when carrying out other work on the road. The Vincent Hospital Board forwarded an 'estimate of - requirements,. including - expenditure on: capital works, amounting to £3264, an increase of £2OO due to necessary additions at the Dunstan Hospital.—The estimate was agreed to. ‘ ' ' ' -A, bad slip having occurred on-the Makarora road, the council voted £IOO for its removal. - . ' : The treasurer’s statement showed a credit balance of £3286. The sum of £2OOO to the credit of,the bridge building account was ordered to be placed at fixed deposit for six ‘months. Before the meeting terminated the chairman made appreciative inference to the good feeling’ which had existed in the past year. He congratulated the members and council’s officers: upon, the work which had been done and the cooperation extended to him. ;He regretted the Cr Spain had decided to retire from office and would not be seeking re-elec-tion. -To Cr MTCnight he .expressed the hope that he'would ■ bo successful in the election contest and’ be returned for a further term. ACCIDENT. An accident in which a cyclist, horse man and motorist wore involved occurred at the bridge last Friday night late. Both horse and rider were injured, the latter being conveyed to the Dunstan Hospital. It is reported the motorist drove; on without either disclosing his identity or offering some assistance. CHURCH meeting: ’ The aiinualTneeting of the parishioners of St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Clyde, took place last Monday evening, the vicar presiding; There was a very good; attendance. Reports submitted by various officers indicated an exceptional year of progress. Communicant response was large and five valuable memorials and gifts had been-dedicated, resulting in a vast improvement, to the sanctuary and interior of the church. The finan-cial-statement was specially interesting being the first full year of the Duplex system. The treasurer stated' all responsibilities had been met by directgiving and a larger credit balance was carried forward. The parish secretary attended the meeting and presented a statement from the vestry equally • encouraging. A new committee was elected consisting of Messrs H. E. Stevens, .7. L. Davidson, E. Wood, W. Holdoni. T.; Wilkinson (vicar’s-warden), 11. J. Wright, Mesdames Annan, Allen, Secular and Stevens. Before the close of the meeting and suppVr various future activities were discussed. FRUITGROWERS’ ASSOCIATION. 'At 8 meeting of the" Clyde Fruitgrowers’ Association last Monday Messrs W. ’Annan mid S. A. Stevens wore appointed delegates to the Otago Fruitgrowers’ Conference to ho. held at Dunedin in June next, COUNCIL ELECTIONS. The candidates for the County Council ridings of Dunstan and Mamihorikia. are making representations to the- ratepayers. No great burning question appears to have arisen but the fact of their being elections is creating some interest. .- PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs F. Caterer leave for their new home at Outrain this week. Airs Caterer was entertained-by members of

the Children’s Sanctuary, Guild and also the Croquet Club and-feceived presentations from each. She received in ■ addition to these ,a very, nice gift from the parishioners of St. Michael's. Mr. Powley, of the Gore Post Office, is - due to arrive to-morrow'and take; over the local post .office. , - Mr D. B. Lyons, who met with a painful-accident to his eye recently, .has •, been under ’ medical • treatment in Dunedin. An operation became .necessary, and he is now expected to return homo very soon. ;
