ENGLISH CHOCOLATES.
FACTORIES IN NEW ZEALAND. ESCAPING IMPORT TARIFF. (Special to Dailt Times:) AUCKLAND, April 30. Two well-known brands of English ' chocolate, Cadbury’s and Fry’s, are to bo manufactured in New Zealand. Experts will arrive in the Dominion shortly, arid an up-to-date plant js to be erected at some centre which has yet to be. chosen. These statement's were made this morning by Mr G. Sara, New Zealand manager for Cadburys, Ltd., chocolate manufacturers, Birmingham, who returned by the Tamaroa from England. . The reason for the new development is the high tariff imposed on imported chocolate by the New Zealand Government. ’ Cadbury’s and Fry’s chocolates cost twice ; as much in t)m, Dominion as they do in England. New Zealand will lose tho revenue from this commodity, but will get the benefit of the manufacture here. - Mr Sara said that he was agreeably surprised by what he saw in England. With the exception of coal and cotton, ' trade was improving. Manufacturers had awakened to trade possibilities. He thought that the unemployment cry was overdone. After deducting those who would not and could not work the percentage of able-bodied persons was not large.
