A TEACHER MURDERED
CRIME IN ALSACE-LORRAINE. BLACKSMITH ARRESTED. (United Press Association.^ (By Electric ■ Telegraph—Copyright.) PARIS, April 29. The finding in the woods near Strasbourg of the body of an English teacher named Eva Brand, who had been murdered, led' to the disclosure of a remarkable story. Ayoung blacksmith named Charles Bentz is alleged to have confessed that he had an, English lesson from Miss Brand. He then followed her to the woods, .strangled her, and took her • valuables and went to his sweetheart’s house,- where he confessed to the deed and fled. Soon after the young woman saw Bentz hanging from a tree and cut him down. He recovered. The police overtook him on the river bank. Bentz swam the stream. He discarded his clothes a ; he resumed his flight, and was captured after a long pursuit.—Australian Press Association.
