KOOKABURRA TRAGEDY
PROGRESS OF LAND PARTY. ARRIVAL AT THE SPOT. (Doited Press Association., (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) ' SYDNEY, April 30. The land party, which left Wave Hill on April 23, arrived yesterday at "the spot on which the Kookaburra came down. As the Air Force planes which were guid ing the party had to return to the base no report was obtained. Flying-Officer Ryan will fly out again to-day to get the news. Shortage of water and the difficult nature of the country wore the reasons for the delay in the expedition’s progress. All the party, however, are in good health. NO TRACES OF MR HITCHCOCK. SYDNEY, April 30. (Received April 30, at 10 p.tn.) Efforts to communicate with the land party at the Kookaburra are being made by the Air Force party. The latter are dropping notes from aeroplanes, and replies are being made from the ground by Lieutenant Eaton by means of calico sheets formed to represent code letters. There is still no trace of Mr Hitchcock. The Southern Cross and the Canberra arc being completely overhauled, repaired, and reconditioned.
