Thus evolution has made obsolete the term “ the movies,” because motion ho longer constitutes the factor of wonder, and the devotees of the kinema are faced with the necessity of coining some phrase which willbe applicable to the soundfactor that is now port of its constitution. To sections of humanity not gifted.with any great degree of imagim. don what more apt phrase than “ The Talkies? ” In its latest development, however, the motion picture promises to command the patronage of men and women from whom its silence and-elemental crudity have in the past alienated it. If, as indications point, sound-production is to be perfected along with animated photography, then the motion picture must become the medium of art in its highest manifestation, since to the screen can be brought the greatest offerings of the musical art. But can even a dubious professional be Sheedled Into giving hia or her services irough a medium boasting as an insignia the term " Talkies? ” Most certainly not. Then let a fitting title be sought that shall lift from its plebeian plane a much abused medium of the arts.
