The inaugural meeting'of the'Health, and Industrial Exhibition Week Committee was held in the Y.W.C.A. Rooms on Monday evening when there were present Mrs C. M. Begg in the chair Miss Hare (minute secretary), Mes- ’ dames W. Stevenson, M'George, iMisses O'Shea, Mon crieff, Guthrie, and Beardsley (secretary). Dr Marion Whyte, Dr A. 6. Fisher, and Mr Renfrew, White. It was reported that the following societies had expressed their willingness to co-operate with the Y.W.C.A. in stimulating and educating public opinion in matters pertaining to the health of the individual and, of the community, thus carrying, out the health and, industrial programme to, which'the Y'.W.G.A. has pledged itself in this year’s activities—the Plunket Society, the Red Cross Society, the St. John Ambulance Association, the Home Science Department of Otago University, etc. Each society is represented bn the committee, and will, it is hoped, he responsible for a permanent exhibit, lecturettes, and dembnstratipns during exhibition, week (July 1-5). Other features of the week’s activities will be films and lantern slide exhibitions, a poster display of entries received for the poster competition on any health anti industrial subject which is open to all, short displays by physical culture classes, etc. The monthly meeting of Triumph Lodge No. .9 (Protestant Alliance) was to have been held on Anzac Day, but in place of the usual meeting a memorial service was held, to which the members of the other lodges were cordially invited, as were also the members of the Loyal Orange Institution. The speaker for the evening was P.G.M. Bro. T, Arnold, Bro. G. A. Perrin, W.M., of No. 9, presided, and he was assisted in the service by Bro. T, Arnold and Bro. A. E. Benfell, of District Lodge, L. 0.1. The placing of an evergreen wreath on the roll of honour board was entrusted to P.M. Bro.. W. Devlin, while Sister Cubitt played the “ Dead March.” Taking for his subject “ Lest We Forget,” Bro. Arnold held his hearers in close attention, and ip no uncertain manner explained why they should not forget those who, in the hour of Britain’s peril, responded to the call for men and still more men. The speaker dealt very fully with the- great - response of the dominions of Africa, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In referring to the memorials that have been erected to the memory of those who fell, Bro. Arnold explained how those who were left could have the greatest memorial of all by re- ’ memfaering in their hearts with gratitude not only those who fell, but those who returned maimed and injured.
