■ ■«» ' (From Ouk Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, April 30. TAPANUI GOL. CLUB. The annual meeting of the Tapanni Golf Club was held Inst Thursday, when Dr W. Robertson, president, occupied the chair, and there was a good muster of members. The balance sheet, which showed the club to be in a sound financial position, was adopted without discussion. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Dr W. Robertson; vice-presidents—Mr W. K. Gill, Miss Howat and Miss Murney: secretary and treasurer, Mr T. L, Floyd; club captain, Mr J. P. Harrison; auditor' Mr J. F, Harrison; solicitor, Mr W. B. Naylor; committee—President, club cap

tain, secretary, Mrs M. Robertson, Misses A. Denford, M. Murney and M. Howat; Selection Committee—Dr Robertson, Mr J. F. Harrison and Miss Hewat. A donation of £1 Is was voted to the Farmers' Club and 10s to the Bowling Club. The services of Mr L. G. Reilly, golf professional, have been engaged for five days, commencing from about May 9. WEST OTAGO SUB-UNION. The annual meeting of the West Otago Rugby Football Sub-union ‘was held on April- 23, when Mr T. M’Donald occupied the chair, and there was a full attendance of delegates. In reply to a letter sent to the Heriot Club asking for an explanation in connection with the appointment of Mr A, Eckhold as referee for the White Horse Cup match played last year, the following minute passed at a meeting of the Heriot Club was received—" That the Heriot Club considered' the matter finished when it received a letter from the sub-union censuring them for appointing Mr A. Eckhold as referee.”—lt was resolved to acknowledge receipt of the letter from the club and that the matter of the Referees’ Association should be held over for the new union to deal with. The balance sheet, which showed the sub-union to be in a sound financial position, was read by the secretary and in moving its adoption, the chairman said that a good deal of expense had been incurred during the past year in entertaining teams and visiting other centres. Mr Varcoe in seconding the motion said that he was pleased to see the old members again assembled and also the new ones, also that the union was now in a sound financial position. He thanked ‘the members for their kindness to ' him and- wished the incoming committee a successful and. prosperous year of office. Before vacating the chair, the president thanked them one and all for their assistance and courtesy to him during his term of office. They had been a happy family and had had a successful year. Tho election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—President, Mr W. B. Naylor; vice-president, Mr J, Hitching; secretary, Mr J. Barron; Emergency and Regrading Committees—Messrs Ussher, A. H. Sinclair and E. Arnold; selectors--Messrs W, Corcoran, J. Edgar, and A. -Ottrey; auditor, Mr J. M‘Lay; delegate to 0.R.F.U., Mr W. B. Naylor. The opening day was fixed for Saturday, May 4, and the draw was left in the hands of the Emergency Cominittee. The following boundaries for the subunion were adopted:—North, Mob Flat; east, Blue Mountains; west,’ Southland boundaries; south, Waipahi Stream. In referring to the dispute between the Referees’ Association and the Heriot Chib, the president, for the benefit qf new members, briefly outlined the facts as they appeared to him.—After a good deal of discussion had taken place and the chairman had given a number of rulings, the following motion was carried unanimously:—“That if the Heriot Club .would express regret to the Referees 1 Association, the sub-union would rescind its motion of censure on that club.” After the motion had been carried Mr Sinclair intimated that he would endeavour to get his club to express their regret. PERSONAL. Mr R. A. Rodger (Land Purchase Inspector), who has been in the district on official business, loft on Monday for the north. Tl: Rev, H. C, L. Gaut, of Wihton, who exchanged pulpits with the Rev. G- A. Dawson, preached to a largo congregation in All Saints Church on Sunday. Mr Gaut !a at present renewing acquaintance with old friends in the district. , Mr L. Crawford, who is under transfer from the Dunedin Post Office to Wellington, is at present spending a, holiday in Tapanui with his mother. Inspector J, palmy, of Invercargill, paid an official visit to Tapanui last, week.
