AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERS
A MEMORIAL AT HAREFIELD. THE UNVEILING CEREMONY. (Untied Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 28. Sir Granville Ryrie (Australian High Commissioner) unveiled a memorial at Harefield Church to the 112 Australian soldiers who died at Harefield Hospital and are buried in the churchyard. Sir Newdegate, an ex-Governor of Tasmania and Western Australia, who is the patron of the Harefield living, was the donor of the memorial. Sir Granville Ryrie, in his address, said that Australia was proud to have sent 400,000 of her sons overseas. They were all volunteers. Fifty-six thousand made the supreme sacrifice. The vicar (the Rev, J. Grundy) dedicated the memorial and preached from the text: “Greater love hath no man." Sir Francis Newdegate- read the lessons. The Harefield Boys’ Brigade sounded the “ Last Post ’’ and “ Reveille." The battalion flags which the Australian children gave the Harefield chlldren, draped the memorial. The vicar also dedicated "Australian Gate,” leading to the Australian graves.—Australian Press Association—United Service.
