ANZAC DAY.
EARL JELLICOE’S MESSAGE. (Pbb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 27. The Returned Soldiers’ Association has received the following cablegram from Earl Jellicoe: —“ I wish on this anniversary of the historic landing, in which New Zealanders played such a gallant part, to express on behalf of their comrades at Home their undiminished admiration, and their sympathy with the dependents of those who made the great sacrifice. I am laying a wreath on the Cenotaph to-day in the name of the ex-service men of the Empire.” SERVICE AT RATANUI. A memorial service was held on Anzao Day at Ratanui, at which there was a record attendance, the church being filled to overflowing. There was a combined parade of local Girl Guides and Boy Scouts, who marched from the hall to the church with colours flying. There was also a considerable number of exservice men present from the surrouaddistrict. The service was conducted by Mr Read, assisted by the Rev. Mr Craigie. During the address wreaths were placed on the roll of honour by the Guides and Scouts. At the conclusion of tlie service the ceremony of dedica- ”< be ® cou ts’ flag was performed. Those present were agreeably surprised and pleased by the unexpected attendance of Mr E. Brendon, the late minister, who had to relinquish the charge on account of ill-health and is at present an inmate 'of Owaka Hospital, the doctor having granted him permission to he present on condition that he returned to hospital immediately after the service. He was conyeyed to and from Ratanui by Mr R, M Taggart.
