MILTON NOTES.

(Frosi Our Own Correspondent.) MILTON, February 14. PERSONAL. The Mayor (Mr James Gray) and Cr D._ M’Donald have been appointed as the Milton Borough Council’s representatives on the local Fire Board. Mr Robert G. Lockhart, of Clarksville, who recently retired from the directorate of the Milton Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, was on Tuesday evening presented with a solid leather suit case from the directors and suppliers, in ap predation of his lengthy and' valued services. Thc_ presentation was made by Mr R. H. Michelle (chairman of directors), and Mr Lockhart suitably responded. UNDERGROUND TELEPHONE CABLES. The Telegraph Department’s workmen made a start this morning laying underground cables from the Telephone Exchange. The plans provide for underground cables along the main street and several side streets. BOWLING. Four rinks from Milton Club have entered- for the South Otago Bowling Association’s tournament on Saturday. Two will play at Kaitangata and the others at Balelntha. The teams aue:— At Kaitangata —Wilson, J. Gray, Clery. J, Morris; Wilkinson, Smith, Dwanney; at Balclutba —M'Donald, Marshall. Farrell. Price; Clark, Clayton, Powlcy. Withey.. The following rink will represent. the Milton Club at the “Elderly Bowlers' Day ” on Dunedin Club’s green on Satur day:—Bastings, Adam, M’Kechme Moore. Messrs H. Adamson and A, Gray also intend taking part in the annual outing. CRICKET. The postponed shield cricket match between Milton B and Lovell’s Flat teams will be played on the latter’s ground on Saturday afternoon. Following are the teams:—Milton B: Oliver, M’Donald' M'Laren, Andrews, O’Shaughnessy, Burn Hawke, Arnott, Murray, H Hood. J. Wilson. Lovell’s Flat: Bowi-s, Booth, MTar lane, Murray (2), Patterson. Robinson (3), Rutherford, Ward. Milburn < (winners of the northern division) will be represented by the fol lowing team in the final match for the South Otago Association’s shield against Waiwera (winners of the southern division)Allan, Collings, Kau e (2) Auicich (2), Wisely. M’Groutlmr, Bowie. Hare. Strain; emergency, C Bowie. The match will be played on Balelntha-ground on Saturday.

LAWN TENNIS. The Milton B team will visit Bnlclutha on Saturday afternoon tor the opening of the second romid of the junior grade matches. Team: Miller, Gray, Marrvatl. W. Lane, Misses MTnncs, Allan GraV and Vidal. Milton C team will play a frivudlv match with Stirling at Stirling. SALE OK FARM. One of the oldest established farms in Milton district has changed hands, Mr G. Lindsay,'of " Birkcnshaw ” Farm, having disposed of lus property, which comprises about 209 acres. The property was purchased by holders of adjacent farms, Mr J. Jail ray having acquired the fiat portion and Mr Thomas Barton the hilly portion. CYCLE HOAD RACING. The popularity of cycle road racing is increasing locally. F orty entries have been received for another race to-morrow evening—an increase of 15 entries as compared with the first race over a similar course a fortnight ago.
