POLICE DEPARTMENT.
TRANSFERS AND PROMOTIONS. Sub-inspector J. Fahey, of the Dunedin Police Force, has received notice of his promotion to the rank of inspector, but it has not yet been announced- to which station he will be transferred. "He will be'succeeded,here by Senior- Sergeant J. Cummings, who has been stationed at Auckland for 17. years,' and who has been promoted to the rank oi sub-inspector. He is 40 years of age, and has the distinction of being the youngest commissioned member,of the force in New Zealand. 1 , ' •Detective B. Farquharson, of the local detective staff, will be transferred to Hastings, and Detective Nuthall, of Timr aru, will come to Dunedin with the rank of detective sergeant. ■
