MONTHLY 'COUNCIL MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Bruce County Council was held yesterday. The chairman (Cr T. Johnston) presided and there were also present Cra J. Clark, Hj M. Driver, T). The ■ chairman, No. 17 District Highways Council, wrote advising that in accordance with the provisions of the Main Highways Amendment Act the'board had decided-that all expenditure on maintenance ’ and new bridges should be' siibsidifeed on a basis of £2 for £1. —Received. A letter' was received from the district engineer of Public Works (Mr F. S. Dyson) stating that as the council was agreeable to find 40 per cent, of the cost of repairs to the . Taieri Mouth bridge, the Highways Board had been requested to issue; monetary authority so that the work might be proceeded with immediately.—Received, A _ letter was , received from the : clerk of- the Clutlm ■ County Council advising •if his, council,had decided to proceed with the building of a new punt at Pare-tai.-r-Received. GENERAL. An application for a license to prospect over 06 acres at Adams Flat was received from Joseph Stephens. Waitahuna—The clerk pointed out that such an application should really be made to the mining warden and the letter was received.
