(Fhom Oub Own Correspondent.) MILTON, December 3. PERSONAL. Mr_ F. H. Garth, postmaster at Port Ahuriri, has been appointed as postmaster at Milton, to secceed Mr S.’ P, Eddy, who was recently transferred' to Waiuku , (Auckland province). Mr and Mrs R, W. Sinclair, of Taieri Mouth, have returned home after a seven months’ holiday trip to Great Britain, during which they travelled extensively, making Glasgow their principal headquarters. From the Orkneys to Cornwall was included in their itinerary, with short visits to Venice, Switzerland, and Paris. Mr and Mrs Sincliar did the round trip, travelling via Suez oh the outward and returning by the Canadian-Pacific route via .Vancouver. SHEEP-GUESSING COMPETITION. The results of the sheep-guessing competition at Tokomairiro Farmers’ Club summer show have been announced fay the secretary. The correct dressed weight. The first round of the South Otago Association’s Shield matches was concluded on Saturday. In the Northern Division the leaders {Milburn) were defeated on their own gi’ound by Milton A, and Lovell’s Flat defeated Milton B. Stirling had the bye. The glorious uncertainty of cricket was exemplified in the match between Milton A and Milburn on Saturday, Batting first, Milton had nine wickets down for 38, when the last wicket—l. Wilkinson (13) and W. Jeffery (8 not out)—added 20 runs; the innings dosing at 58, F, Bowie (three for 10) secured the best bowling average for Milburn. With six wickets down for 53 runs the chances greatly favoured Milburn, but the last four wickets were quickly dismissed by \V. Wilson (four for 15) and J. Turnbull with the addition of a solitary run, thus leaving Milton A victorious by four runs. J. Kane, sen., was the only double-figure scorer for Milburn, with 23. The match played between Lovell’s Flat a, v} , . on ß, on the local ground, resulted m a victory for the visitors by 38 runs. Batting first, Lovell’s Flat knocked up 112; the principal contributors being G. Murray (32 not out), F. Robinson (21), and T. M'Farlane (19). Milton B responded with 84 (R. Olver 27, W Arnott 13, J. Murray 10 not out). In the howhng averages W. Hawke (four £? r , headed the list for Milton, and C. Clarke (six for 13) secured the best average for the Lovell’s Flat team.
