HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.

“ THE GIRL FRIEND,” The second performance.of "The Girl Friend ” was given by the J. C. Williamson Comedy Company in His Majesty’s Theatre last night. As on the opening night, the audience was of very large dimensions, and it js quite evident that the play has met with a large measure of popular favour. The members of the company utilise their opportunities to good advantage, as a result the weaknesses in the plot are largerly overlooked, patrons being presented with an entertainment that provides them with an. abundance of amusement. The play is attractively staged, and numerous captivating songs are presented to capital advantage, while the dances; booth solo and ballet, were charming to 1 a degree. The’ leading Indy, Miss Annie' Croft, who is making her first tour of the Dominion,, has. a part which is eminently suited to her, her singing, acting, and dancing all being of a high order. She. appeared to special advantage in “Blue Room” anu “ Mountain Scenery ” in association with Mr Reginald Sharland, Who proves an excellent partner for her in many delightful dances. The comedy work of Mr Gus Bluett,- Mr Leo Franklin, and Miss Billie Lockwood is one of the most pleasing features of the production, ■ The firstnamed is exceptionally clever in developing the comedy side. Another outstand ing performer is Mr Franklin, who is entrusted with the part of Richard Dennisten, the intoxicated husband'in the bridal suite with somebody ■ clse’s girl. The other members of the company made an adequate contribution to a production that sends patrons away satisfied that they have spent an enjoyable evening. "‘HIT THE'DECK.” The Dunedin season of the compnny will extend until Saturday next. “The Girl Friend ” will terminate to-morrow -night, and on Thursday the company will produce for the first time in Dunedin the rollicking and; delightful musical comedy Hit. the- Deck,” . . Sailors ' and 1 their variable testes in sweethearts are responsible for much of, the comedy. The plot deals with a lass who loves a sailor. Big scenic effects and musical numbers will be featured.
