Brothers had asked for the use of the Oval for Saturday, as there was a number of visitors present. Mr M'Combie stated that it had been known to the players that the change was being made, but one referee had unfortunately not been informed. Bishop Whyte, of Dunedin, had been invited to be present to see a Third Grade match in which St. Kevin’s College was competing, and it would have been a gratuitous insult to him had the match not been played on the Oval. Some of the junior players had been ungentlemanly enough, after being told of the change, to desire to play on the Oval. He (Mr M'Combie) had given authority for the change. Mr Whitcombe stated that he only desired to mention what he had heard from spectators on the ground. The spectators could not understand why the change had been made. Mr Mollison stated that no insult was intended by any of the players. He could not help thinking that the change proposed should have been notified in writing. The Chairman stated that he had been asked on Saturday morning to agree to the change, and had given 'his consent.
