THE COMING ELECTION.
SOUTH AUCKLAND SEATS. EFFECT OF BOUNDARY CHANGES. {Special to Daxl? Times.) AUCKLAND, April 10. The many alterations made in the South Auckland electoral boundaries by tuo Representation Commission bring some new factors into the choice of candidates for the coming general election. . The abolition of the Ohinemuri electorate, the territory of which has been divided mainly between the altered electorates of Waikato and Thames, will leave its present representative, Mr A. M. Samuel, without a seat. It is uncertain whether Mr T. W. Rhodes, the memoer for Thames, will stand again this year. If he retires or is appointed to the Legislative Council, as it is thought probable he may be, Mr Samuel is likely to contest the Thamea seat on behalf of the Reform Party. , The Waikato electorate has been so altered by the commission as to be scarcely recognisable, having lost tc Raglan and Waitomo all its territory bordering on the West Coast. It now comprises the country north-east of a practically straight line drawn through Hamilton. Mr D. S. Reid, the present member, expects to stand again on behalf of Reform, and other Candidates are Mr S. N. Ziman (Independent Reform) and Mr F. Lya (Liberal). The new Hauraki electorate, made up of the western portion of the Thames electorate with additions, comprises nart of the Hauraki Plains and th„e area bounded by the railway on one side and on the other by the coastline as far north as the Tarnaki River. It also .takes in Papatoetoe, Otahuhu, and the more thickly populated part of Mangere. Mr John *N. Massey, of Puni, Pukekohe. is named as a likely candidate for this seat m the Reform interest; but Mr Massey declines to confirm or deny the report. The Labour member now representing Raglan Mr W. Lee Martin, will undoubtedly stand again. The Reform candidate will probably be chosen from two aspirants, Mr Campbell Johnstone and Mr Walter Seaviil. Mr J. A. Young will again contest Hamilton, which he has represented since the seat was created. Mr S. Lye has announced that he will stand as a Liberal. • Mr C. E. Macmillan, the Reform member for Taurana, may be opposed by Mr H. Poland, who represented Obinemuri for many years. Mr J. Rolleston will still be available in the Reform interest for Waitomo, and Mr W. J. Broad foot is to contest the seat on behalf of the new United Party.
