COUNCIL ELECTIONS
BIENNIAL CONTESTS IN LONDON, THE FIRST RETURNS. (Preii Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, March 9. (Received March 9, at 11 p,m.) At the London County Council elections the first results from 24 boroughs and the City of London show the following gains and losses: —Municipal Reform 2 gains 6 losses, Labour 8 gains 4 losses, Liberal 3 gains 3 losses, making the position of parties in the new council at present; —Municipal Reform 58, Labour 31, Liberal 5, compared with the old council of 84, 34, and 6. The general impression is that the Liberal attempt to regain its former position has failed, Women candidates fared badly, 14 being so far elected and 34 rejected out of 65. Mr Ramsay MacDonald’s daughter Isabel was successful at South Poplar.—A- and N.Z. and Sydney Sun Cable.
