BRITISH COMMONWEALTH
CANADA’S NEW STATUS. ANOTHER DEVELOPMENT. Association—By Telegraph Copyright.) OTTAWA, March 8. (Received March 9, at 10 p.m.) Another more startling development as a result of Canada’s changed relationship ■with Britain is imminent. From authentic cricles it is learned that the Premier contemplates utilising the opportunities of the new status in the British Commonwealth to make a drastic change in the basis and personnel of the International Joint Commission. Heretofore the authority of the Canadian section of that body had its source at the British Government, but the Premier holds that the section should be named by Canada in the country’s own right and authority. The resignation of the chairman (Mr C. A. M'Grath), which has been in the hands of the Government for thre e years, has not been accepted, but it is stated that the Premier has asked for the resignations of two other members—Sir William Hearst, ex-Premier of Ontario, and Mr H. A. Powell, St. John. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
