OPENS TO NIGHT. The initial Dunedin production of “ Rose Marie.” the stupendous musical play, will be presented by the J. 0. Williamson, Ltd., management at His Majesty’s Iheatre tonight, and the booking indicates that this world’s successful production will attract as largo audiences here as it did in Sydney and Melbourne, where it broke even the records established in those cities by ‘‘lire Maid pf the Mountains." and ‘‘ Chu Chin Chow.” Its memorable run in Sydney of over 10 months will probably remain a record for all times. The remarkable popularity won by “Rose Marie” is due to ita delicious and fascinatisg music, to the gripping love story it unfolds, to its clever and original comedy, to its scenic splendours and to its beautiful ballets, including the famous ‘‘Totem Pole Dance,” which has created a sensation tho world over. “ Never before ” wrote a Sydney critic. has d show of such brilliance of production such opulence of setting, svich wealth of talent been seen in Australia, and it ~ s a long time since so delightful a personality as Harriet Bonnot has charmed Sydney playgoers. She is a charming little lady with a delicious naivete, and the role of Rose Marie suits her to perfection Iho comedy of “Rose Marie.” is entrusted to Mr Frederic Bentley as Hard-Boiled Herman. Ha was described in Australia as one of tho funniest and most artistic comedians seen there. He is ably assisted, it is said, by Miss Yvonne Banvard, a quaint and lively soubrette. A feature of “Rose Mario” is the wonderfu dancing of Stephanie Deste, as Wanda, the Indian girl. Reginald Dandy, the pos sessor of a rich baritone voice, and a crood personality, scored a big triumph in Svdney in the important role of Jim Kenyon. Others in tho cast are Mr James Hughes. Georo-e Bryant, Noe] Allan, Lou Vernon, and Slabel Lambeth. The production was staged under the personal supervision of Mr George 11. Highland. The first i aiatinoa will bo on Wednesday next.
