QUEENSTOWN NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) QUEENSTOWN, March 8. WAK.ATIPU LICENSING COMMITTEE. A quarterly meeting of the Wnkatipu Licensing Committee was held in Queenstown on Thursday at noon ; present—Messrs George Cruickshank, S.M. (chairman), William Reid (Arrowtown), D. V. Sutherland (Queenstown), O. A. ,1. Thornton (Glenovchy), Charles Murphy (Alexandra). L. Faigan (Miller’s Fiat. Inspector Bird (Invercargill), Sergeant Armstrong (Clyde) and Con stable Dunn (Queenstown) represented the police and Messrs W. A. Harlow (Clyde) and Robert Gilkison (Queenstown) the applicants. The following permanent transfers were grunted : Hae's Junction Hotel, Rne’s Junction.— Thomas Henry Morkford to David John Jones. Goldfields Hotel, Roxburgh.—Frank A. Cheyno to Frederick Robert White. Blacks Hotel. Ophir.—Ernest V. Pitches to Thomas Eric Tikcy. An application by William Milne for a condition'll license for the Lake County A. and P. Show on March 14 wag refused. ASSESSMENT COURT. There was a lengthy sitting to-day of the Assessment Court, when a large number of objections to the now valuations were hoard' In nearly every instance the assessments wore sustained by the magistrate, Mr George Cruickshank. Mr Robert Gilkison, pm.. appeared for the Queenstown Borough Council ami Mr W. A. Harlow (Clyde) represented the majority of the objectors. The old valuations had been in force since 19G5. The now, which show an increase of approximately 50 per cent., were made by Mr J. J. M’Bride, who was recently appointed borough valuer. Groat interest was evinced in the proceedings, the court being full.
