NORTH-EAST VALLEY PROGRESS LEAGUE.

The monthly meeting of the executive of the-N.E. Valley Progress League was held on Monday night, when there were 10 members present. Mr J. Rhodes occupied the chair. Satisfaction was expressed by those present that the duplication of the car line to Normanby was near completion. The reply from the Works Committee regarding Balawin street was to the effect that as soon os a staff is available the necessary survey work for this will be done. It was also reported that the men had been carrying out this work on Monday. The deputation which waited on the Education Board concerning the Opoho School reported a very favourable hearing. The information asked for by the board is now being secured, and will be forwarded as soon as possible. The report of committee set up to examine the creek and Selwyn Bridge was to the effect that there are many parts of the stream very rriuch in need of protection. That the bridge at Selwyn, while certainly in need for repairs, did not under any consideration call for the expensive new bridge which was suggested. The committee’s estimate of about £l2O has been proved to be near the mark by the action of the council in withdrawing £IOOO and allocating the sum of £llO for this work. It was reported to the meeting that a great deal of dissatisfaction was being expressed over the fact that the money which was withdrawn from the bridge work was not sgent along the creek and the most urgent spots. However, an assurance was given that the money would be provided for these works. Mr C. M. Moss moved the following motion —“ That this executive of the N.E. Valley Progress League considers that the city council has done an injustice to the N.’E. Valley Progress League by transferring this £IOOO from N.E. Valley to other parts of the city, and shall at the next meeting invito all residents of the Valley to be present, so that this matter may be fully discussed. Invitations will also be Mnt to kindred societies and members Work* Committee.
