PERSONNEL FOR NEW CRUISERS NEARLY TWENTY THOUSAND. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright i WASHINGTON, January 27. (Received Jan. 29, at 5.5 p.m.) Admiral Bueret, chief construction officer of the navy, informed the House Naval Committee that an increase ot approximately 20,000 enlisted men and 825 officers will bo necessary to man the eight cruisers now under construction, and the 25 cruisers contemplated in the five-year programme. He said that the eignt cruisers now under construction will cost approximately 16,500,C00d0l each. —A. and N.Z. Cable. NAVAL CONSTRUCTION BILL. INFLUENCING WOMEN VOTERS. WASHINGTON, January 28. (Received Jan. 29, at 11.5 p.m.) An educational programme designed to win support for the Naval Co struction Bill now before Congress is to be adopted for nationwide distribution among women voters at the Women’s Patriotic Conference on National Defence, to be held here on February 1, when 20 women’s patriotic societies will be represented.— A. and N.Z.
