WORTH OTAGO ADVERTISEMENTS. PROPOSED GARDEN FETE. Doubtless all have read with pleasure the report of Mr Barnett of the suggested improvements to the Oamaru Gardens. Contained therein is a fund of material for the imaginative mind that can view the perspective of the improvements which he wishes to make. Nature has decreed that Oamaru should have no sandy foreshore, that the same agency has given us a valley in our midst which, by efforts of our curator and those who preceded him, has been _ transformed from the natural grass to the picturesque and pleasing Gardens that we have to-day. The Oamaru Gardens are spoken of in glowing terms by visitors from north and south. Overseas tourists are unstinted in their praise; in fact, only this week one of these offered an opinion that the Gardens, and also the town, for its size, were the prettiest and cleanest he had seen in all his travels. Civic pride is every day becoming a greater part of this community generally, and such laudatory remarks as we hoar from time to time should rouse each of us to some individual effort further to improve our amenities that we may give added pleasure not only to our visitors, but to ourselves, to •arrange the funds necessary for a scheme such as has been outlined by Mr Barnett and to extend to all interested a cordial invitation to be present at the Council Chambers, Oamaru, at 8 p.m. on TUESDAY, January 31, when it- is hoped that arrangements will be made for the carrying out of a bumper Carnival or such other forms of entertainment that maybe decided upon.
