DRUNKEN MOTORIST.
FINED AND DEPRIVED OF LICENSE. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 27. In the court yesterday a defended case was commenced in which a young farmer named Francis John Douglas of Hawkes Bay, denied being intoxicated in charge of a motor car, and also pleaded not guilty to a charge of dangerous driving w having used indecent language in Willis The police evidence was that the defendant passed a stationary tramcar. Later the motor w y as stopped by the traffic inspector, who asked the defendant for his license. The latter refused to produce it and used indecent language. Eventually however, he showed the license. _ He was encouraged by others to defy the inspector. He was arrested and taken to the police station, where he was seen by doctors. Dr Park said that, that from the appearance of the defendant he had been dunking fairlv heavily on Saturday, but when seen at 1.15 a.rn. oh Sunday he was practically sober. Witness, however, did not think he was fit to drive even at the time of examination. _ • . After a lengthy hearing and further evidence to-day, Mr Page, b-.M., fined Dou hlas £25 and prohibited him from driving for 12 months.
