IMAGINARY WAR.

NAVAL ATTACK ON AUCKLAND. “A SANGUINARY COMBAT.” (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, January 26. A radio message from the Diomede says that this morning an attack was launched on Auckland, which was strongly defended, and had advanced detachments at Waiwera and Warkworth. One attacking party landed from a boat at Orewa and another near the mouth of the Puhoi River at 6.30. Meanwhile the inhabitants were awakened by the reverberation of the ships’ guns giving support to the troops. The combat was extremely sanguinary. Many prisoners were taken. The attackers were deemed to have captured Waiwera. One section of the landing party commandeered a motor and placed a Lewis gun in it, but both car and gun were captured. The squadron, with the exception of the flagship, will return to port this afternoon.
