GUNNERY AT SEA.
COMPETITIVE TESTS IN PROGRESS. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, January 25. The New Zealand Division of the Fuel arrived off Horahora Island last night, following upon a day’s gun practice. The operations in the afternoon were similar to those in the morning, except that the Diomede was the firing ship, while the Dunedin laid the smoke screen. Th e resuits of the efficiency test are not available, as considerable calculation is involved. The Diomede’s complement are confident of their superiority, but doubtless similar sentiments are being expressed on the flagship. Last night a party of 60 marines, landed at Waiwera, which they will defend against an attack early to-morrow morning.
