RESCUED FROM FLAMES.

NARROW ESCAPE FROM BURNING HOUSE. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, January 25. With the house in flames about them Mr and Mrs M. Kilmac, of Kitirawa road, Remuera, had a narrow escape in the early hours of this morning. Mrs Kilmac was ill, and Mr Kilmac’s thoughts were for his wife’s safety. He carried her from the burning building to a neighbour’s house before giving the alarm. When the Remuera Fire Brigade arrived on the scene the house was blazing, and there was no hope of saving it. But for the timely arrival of the brigade the house next door, occupied by Mr C. Stormont, would have caught fire, as it is only about 20£t away. Mr Kilmac returned to his home about midnight, and lighted a fire in the kitchen to make a cup of tea for his wife. Everything was in order when he went to bed, but at 2 o’clock this morning he was awakened by fumes of -imoke and the crackling of timber. Leaping from bed he found that the back portion of the house was in flames. He had some difficulty in escaping from the house with his wife, who was hysterical. Both were in their night attire. Nothing was saved from the burning building. RESIDENCE DESTROYED BY FIRE. (Per 'nitet Presj Association.) GISBORNE, January 25. A house owned by Mr Preddy, and occupied by Mr O’Connell, was gutted by fire this morning whilst the occupants were away at a picnic. This is the third fire within four days in the same block.
