Belcher, of Winnipeg, disclosed that he will undertake a flight a round the globe against time this year, in addition to the Antarctic flight in August with Commander Byrd.—A. and N.Z. Cable. Mr Clarence Chamberlin has started ru a *30,000-mile lecture tour, following up the aviation boom which Colonel Lindbergh started, using a light, small, on;man machine. Mr Chamberlin made a sensational start, taking off from a tree-lined street out halting the motor car traffic. Wheeling the plane from the factory into t)io street, he waited for a gap in the traffic, then slipped in 100 ft. Later, wishing to return for readjustments, he once more picked up a gap in the traffic, and landed among the motor cars. Cable. OVERSEA FLIGHTS. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S VIEW. OFFICIAL PRONOUNCEMENT. CANBERRA, January 25. (Received Jan. 25, at 11 p.m.) Mr Bruce, in an official pronouncement on the Government’s attitude towards oversea flights, stated that he would remind those desirous of organising illadvised attempts that unless the machine and the crew were considered by the Defence Department to be such as to ensure a reasonable prospect of success, then all possible action would be taken to prevent the undertaking, and all the powers vested in the Federal Government would be invoked to penalise an unauthorised flight. On the other hand, if the Government was satisfied that the machine was suitable, and all the other conditions and regulations were complied with, the Government was prepared to afford encouragement and reasonable assistance to the enterprise.
