MELANESIAN MISSION.

A RECENT WEDDING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, December 14. All who are keen about the welfare of the Melanesian Mission and who are glad to have information regarding its personnel will be interested to hear of the wedding which took place on November 19 of Dr Maybury and Miss F. E. Kaines. The ceremony took place at the Church of St. Mary-the-Virgin, Primrose Hill, and many friends were.present at a solemn and beautiful service and Eucharist. Dr and Mrs Maybury will leave England on February 3 by the Corinthic, and a fellow passenger and future worker with them in the mission will be the Rev, L. E. Cartridge, 8.A., Keble College, Oxford, the Cuddesdou Theological College. Mr Cartridge offered himself for work on the mission staff in the Mandated Territory, and his offer was accepted. He is, therefore, the first priest secured for pioneer work in the Gasmata district of New Britain. He will go to Siota before continuing his journey to the Mandated Territory. “The Southern Cross L<og appeals for an unmarried priest, animated by the spirit of adventure for Christ to volunteer to accompany Mr Cartridge or to follow him. Also “The Log” pleads for one or two laymen—men who have not onh the technical qualifications, one of them for doing something in the way of carpentering and building, and the other for managing a motor boat, but also some definite training as churchmen. Surely there are some thus qualified among our younger lay churchmen to whom the opportunity of such a venture anneals! In the October number of the “ Southern Cross made known for £3OOO to build a new hospital in the Solomon Islands. A promise of £2OOO has been made by a donor who prefers to be know simnly_ as “ Cornstalk,” and in addition, there is a sum in hand of £464. The Melanesian Mission hopes that the balance needed will be received before Dr and Mrs Maybury leave England. On January 24 a Dismissal Service will be held in London prior to the departure of the Rev. L. E. Cartridge and Dr and Mrs Maybury. During the month of December a number of meetings on behalf of the Melanesian Mission have been arranged to take place at various centres, the speakers including the Rev. A. I. Hopkins, the Rev. F. Lyle Uppleby, the Rev. W. C. O’Ferrall, and Mr E. Bourne.
