MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED. (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, December 27. As the result of a fall from a motor cycle which came into collision, with a car near Huntly yesterday afternoon, a youth named Lionel Hopwood Shelly, of Beach road, Auckland, received a fracture of the right leg. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR CAR. (Special to Dails Limes, i WANGANUI, December 27. A, man named Guilford, aged 51, was knocked down by a motor car on Taupo quay on Christmas Eve and was removed in an unconscious state to the hospital. Little change is reported in his condition. A LEG AMPUTATED. (Special to Dailx limes.} WANGANUI, December 27. On Saturday a motor cyclist named Arthur Edward Couchman, aged 18 years, a resident of Wanganui East, collided with a motor car driven by J. H. R. Fisher, of Durie Hill, in the vicinity of Westmere. Couchman received a fracture to a leg, his injury necessitating his admission to the Wanganui Hospital. Later the injured cyclist’s right leg was amputated below the knee. A FIREMAN’S DEATH. (Special to Dailx Times.) WANGANUI, December 27. The young man who was found dead on a staging in the stokehold of the Matakana in the roadstead on Saturday was Sydney Grump, aged 25, a native of London. ‘On Saturday afternoon Mr J. J. Pilkington, acting-coroner, of Aramoho, and Sergeant G. Sivyer proceeded to the Matakana and an inquest was held on board the freighter. Evidence as to the discovery of deceased’s body was given. No one saw the accident happen, but where the body was found it was apparent that Grump had fallen down one of the stairways, receiving head and body injuries which caused his death. The distance of the fall is stated to have been only about six feet. The coroner returned a verdict that the death of Sydney Grump was due to injuries received from an accident through falling down a stairway on the steamer Matakana. . As far as is known Grump had no relations in this country. WOMAN’S SUDDEiJ CALL. (Per United Press Association j CHRISTCHURCH, December 27. Unable to sleep, and in pain, Katrine Christina Easterbrook, aged 61, widow, drank som methylated spirits late last evening and died early to-day at Christchurch Hospital. Mrs Easterbrook had suffered from an internal trouble for some time. She told her son, who was called about midnight, that she thought that spirits might relieve her pain. He had his mother conveyed to hospital, where she died at 6 a.m. to-day. death from apoplexy. Philip Henry Dickson, wool classer, died from an apoplectic stroke while in the Port Chalmers Hotel yesterday afternoon. Deceased was 59 years of age, and resided with his wife and family at Port Chalmers. Dr Allan B. Roy was summoned, and as he knew the case and attested to the cause of death an inquest was not deemed necessary. BOY INJURED. Whilst playing on the Ravensbourne jetty yesterday afternoon a 13-year-old boy named Harry Groome, who resides with his parents at Grant street, Eavensbourne, fell and received a severe cut on his left leg, which necessitated his removal to Hospital, where he was admitted about 4 o’clock. FALL FROM A BICYCLE. Mrs Rose Reid, aged 42 years, who resides at Highcliff corner, was admitted to Hospital at 2.30 yesterday afternoon, suffering from injuries to her face and the right arm, caused through falling from a bicycle. DROWNED MAN IDENTIFIED. The body of the young man who was found drowned at Purakanui on Sunday afternoon was identified yesterday by the father as that of William Anderson Forbes, who resided at 15 Gamma street. Rns-lyn, and who was camping by himself near Long Beach.
