VISCOUNT BURNHAM

DEPARTURE FROM JOURNALISM. DEEP REGRET EXPRESSED. (Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ) LONDON, December 26. The Evening Standard says“ With the transfer of the Daily Telegraph another dynasty passes from Fleet street. The Telegraph has so long been considered a monument of Conservatism that the present generation fails to realise that it began as strongly Radical and distinctly sensational. It was in the 'seventies that the Telegraph passed from Liberalism to Disraeli Imperialism, at the time when Gladstone was hooted in the streets of London. It is understood that the new regime will make it a penny paper. There is deep regret at the departure of Viscount Burnham from journalism, which had in him a dignified and effective ambasssador to the great world, which everywhere recognised him as an alert responsible journalist.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
