THE NATIONAL DEBT
OFFER TO THE TREASURY. AN UNDISCLOSED BENEFACTOR. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ) LONDON, December 26. An undisclosed benefactor has given £IOO,OOO to the State to accumulate for a long period at interest towards the rodomptio of the National Debt. It is hoped that others will follow this example now that the law against perpetuity has been altered in favour of a fund of this description. Mr Herbert, M.P., considers that this is a serious proposition, and declares that it is possible for £1,000,000 to become £256,000,000 in 105 years.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
