RAINS IN QUEENSLAND. RECORD FLOOD FEARED. (Frees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ) BRISBANE, December 27. A message from Longreach savs that a wet season appears to have set in. The rivers and creeks are running bankers, and a record flood is feared. At Aramac the average fall for the district is 4in, but places have received 10in to 12m. The rain each day extends further west. Nearly all graziers are arranging to bring their stock back to the home quarters. Serious floods are feared in parts of the south-west, where the rivers are rising rapidly.

ALL THE RIVERS OVERFLOWING,

TWO MEN DROWNED. BRISBANE, December 27. (Received Dec. 27, at 10.5 p.m.) Heavy floods in the Central and Western districts caused general dislocation of traffic and much damage, all the rivers overflowing. Two lives were lost in the Longreach district. Willis Mayne, an overseer on Mount Cornish Station, and a black bov attempted to swim their horses across a creek. Mayne was washed away and drowned, but the boy succeeded in reaching the bank exhausted. An unknown man, who was surrounded by the flood waters on the Thompson River, was drowned while trying to escape.

SYDNEY CIVIC COMMISSION.

MEMBERS TO BE SWORN IN. SYDNEY. December 27. Mr Bavin announced that the City Council Commission commences to function on January 3, on which date the members will be sworn in. DULL WEATHER IN SYDNEY. MANY DEATHS DURING HOLIDAYS. SYDNEY, December 27. Dull, boisterous, southerly weather prevails for the holidays, which are marked by the usual number of accidents throughout the Commonwealth. So far 11 people have been reported killed and many injured, several seriously. STEWARDS ON FLAGSHIP STRIKE. SYDNEY, December 27. (Received Dec. 27, at 10.5 p.m.) The weather was fine and cool till mid-afternoon, and then became showery. The Balmain regatta was marred by a strike of the stewards engaged to serve the official luncheon aboard the flagship. They refused to serve anyone except passengers, and a large number of guests, including the Governor-General, had to go without a midday meal.

CRASH IN NEW SOUTH WALES

THE PILOT INJURED. SYDNEY, December 27. (Received Dec. 27, at 10.40 p.m.) Au ;»ir mail service ’plane crashed while taking off at Hay. The pilot, Daish. was seriously injured, and the mechanic and a male passenger were injured. Two women passengers were unhurt.
