SECOND DAY AT ELLERSLIE.

THE FIELDS REVIEWED. (Special to Dails Times.) AUCKLAND, December .27. The hard state o£ the ground is no doubt responsible for the small fields in a coupfe of races at Ellerslie tomorrow. The first event is the Fergusson pan and here there is Golden Armour, who will be a better filly for the run had on Saturday. Saucy Lass, Pape Bov Abbey Day, Singleton, and The Immigrant will also be better suited by the SlD Five only remain in the weight-for-age event, the King’s PI ate, and will be racing over his best distance. Aussie may go B for the sprint, and a mile it present may find Gascony out. Lj sander will go well in a small field over a mile, and gameness may pull him through. Martarma is a good three-year-nlrl an A the mile will suit him. The Cambridge stable holds a s^ or ‘ g hand in the Ponsonby Hurdles with Wedding March, Kings Guard, a “ d Cavalier. Karamu will be hard put to There* i's in the Summer Cup. Battlement, who was third in the Auckland Cup, will go another good race H caught in the mood, but he is erratic ‘Mosaic King . Lu, lin the Shade, and Pegaway read nicely. Mandane has been doing great track work, and she may be the most difficult to dispose of. There is almost as good a field in the Flectric Handicap as there was in the Railway, and with the likes of Eulalie, Aussie, Nancy Lee, Money .Order, Cmwbue, Joy King, Paganelli, and Papercbase engaged there will be a torrid pace• set In the Criterion Handicap Freehold went too badly the first day to be recommended, although, of course, that was not his true form. Prodice, Marions Birth day, Patodawn, and Maunaena Park are Waitcmata Handicap but half a dozen, and it is probable that the small field will play right into Royal Boulton’s hands, or feet. After his dua success at Feilding a month ago backers will want to be on Ruanm, but others to be considered are Siaosi, Doree, Ti Tree, and Archeuo. The last-named put up a coed callop last week. ... g Summed up, horses that will co “® ' n for heavy support to-morrow are the following Fergusson Handicap, Golden Ar mour and Saucy Lass; the Kings Plate, Lvsander and Grand Knight; Ponsonby Hurdles, the Wedding March-Kings. Guard bracket and Karamu; Summer Cun Mandane and In the Shade; Criterion Handicap, Marion’s Birthday and Prodice; Waitemnta Handicap, Royal Doulton and Bold Front; Electric Haudicap, Eulalie and Aussie; Plunket Handicap! Ruanm and Doree. ~ Grand Knight was accepted for in the Summer Cup, but was scratched 20 minutes later.
