BOMBS IN BUENOS AIRES
AMERICAN BANKS DAMAGED. SEVEN GIRLS INJURED. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) BUENOS AIRES, December 24. (Received Dec. '26, at 5.5 p.m.) Bombs were exploded in two American bank buildings, namely, the National City Bank and the First National Bank of Boston. The former explosion occurrred near the office of the management, and seven girls were injured. Considerable damage was done to both banks, but no one is reported as killed. The explosions occurred shortly before noon, when the banks were thronged with people. All the windows of the National City Bank were blown out, and the wind-shields of passing automobiles were shattered. Strong cordons of police were placed around the buildings, while the firemen made an investigation. Hundreds of people immediately formed an impromptu parade through the streets, shouting: “ Death to a.ll Communists. Long live the United States; long live the Argentine.” The manager of the National City Bank was cut in the head with flying glass. He is believed to be the only American hurt. Great confusion followed the explosion in this bank, and there were miraculous escapes in the crowded room. Uninjured people were surrounded with demolished woodwork and shattered glass from the hpge skylight, which covered the floor. One theory is that the bomb was thrown through the skylight, but no one saw the bomb. Smoke and dust poured from the building 20 minutes after the explosion, and the screams of the women employees added to the commotion. Both banks had been heavily guarded since the ISacco-Vanzetti agitation, which was most violent here. The police have taken charge of both buildings and no one is allowed to leave or enter. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
