ECONOMY IN BRITAIN

A POLICY OF RETRENCHMENT. DRASTIC CUTS NEXT YEAR. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, December 22. An important group of Conservative members of the House of Commons has been conducting long correspondence with the Government on the subject of economy, and is stated to be fully satisfied with the concluding letter, in which the Prime Minister intimated that he was making very substantial cuts in expenditure in 1928.

The Daily Telegraph’s parliamentary correspondent says that the group is now convinced that the Government recognises the desire of its supporters to see a policy of retrenchment pursued in what will be the last full year of the present Parliament. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
