LONDON, December 21, The Italian Ambassador, on behalf of the Italian Government, has presented to the British Government the first copy printed of a special centenary edition of Ugo Foscolo’s poems, prefaced with the following inscription signed by Signor MussoliniTo England, hospitable to an exile and th©- first burying place of Ugo Foscolo, the head of the Italian Government has presented this book_ on the centenary of the death of the Italian poet as a mark of gratitude and token of lasting spiritual fellow-feeling between the two nations.” . The volume will be placed in the British Museum. Foscolo was buried at Turnham Green, his remains, being transferred to Florence in 1871.—A. and N.Z. and Sydney Sun Cable. Ugo Foscolo was born in 1778 and died in 1827. He was a well-flnown Italian author and poet, who for his political opinions had to leave the University of Pavia, and went to London, and ther e employed his time in literary work. He produced many admirable translations, but ultimately died in poverty at Turnham Green.
