The tight was short and exciting. The ex-champion attempted his famous uppercut, but Mummery, brimming over with tho energy of youth, forced the fighting and overwhelmed Lis opponent. (Received Deo. 21, at 7.45 p.m.) Tho Romo correspondent of the Morning Post says that the fight between Cook and Carolis was the feature of tho international programme at one of the greatest displays of boxing ever seen in Romo. The verdict that Carolis was a winner on points was loudly contested by tlio public, w’hose opinion is now endorsed by the press, which affirms that a draw was justified. Carolis, who while training, admitted respect for his experienced opponent, opened cautiously, but suddenly started forcing tho fight in tho third round. Tho Australian, who was undoubtedly surprised, retaliated with vigour, tho contest developing into a battle royal. Cook was twice warned for butting, while Carolis was frequently in distress owing to Cook’s methods and clinches. Despite tho verdict, the men finished all square after a memorable fight such as cannot ho seen in countries with inflated purses and allied business interests.
