CITY POLICE COURT.
Tuesday, December 20. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender, who did not appear, was fined 20s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness. A VAGRANT SENTENCED. A young man, named Robert O' moron, pleaded guilty to being an idle and disorderly person in that he had no visible means of support.—Sergeant Dunlop stated that the accused had been wandering about the town for some time, begging. In one case, he had assaulted a man who refused to give him anything.— “ He seems a \Vortlilcss sort of a scamp, remarked the Magistrate as he imposed a sence of one/month’s imprisonment, with hard labour.
CIRCUS HANDS CHARGED. Francis Lalor, Michael John Joseph, Leonard Lalor, and Robert John Lidster were jointly charged with (1) having, on December 4, at Gore, stolen goods valued at £9 11s, the property of Win. Lutting: (2) on November 30, at Gore, stealing goods valued at £lO, the property ol Robert Ernest Slocombe; and (J) at Lumsdcn, on November 20, stealing goods valued at £6 10s, belonging to Peter Drummond.—Chief Detective Cameron said the men came from Melbourne with Wirth’s Circus, and had been touring the South Island. They left the circus a week ago, and came to Dunedin, where they were living together. A number of articles missed in some of the towns visited by the circus had been pawned here by the accused, and others were found in their possession.—Tnc accused, who were not represented by counsel, entered a plea of not guilty, and were remanded until to-morrow, ponding further n - quirics.
