In further explanation of the Nationalist break with Russia, Dr Wu (Nationalist Minister of Foreign Affairs) declares officially that the action was taken reluct antly and solely in self-defence- He denies hostility to Russians, towards whom he has the warmest sympathy. He says the action must not be construed to constitute the severance of political and com mercial agencies and houses and the Soviet extensive, and a method must be devised in order to continue to trade with her. A search warrant on the Soviet commcrcil agencies and houses and the Soviet Consulate has been granted by the International Settlement Police. Ten Soviet commercial organisations have been closed and guarded. The police ordered them to wind up their affairs and evacuate the premises.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
