AUSTRALIAN WHEAT
FREEDOM PROM DISEASE. A TRIUMPH FOR SCIENCE. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ) SYDNEY, December 15. The Daily Telegraph says that the outstanding feature revealed by the inspection of the season’s wheat crops in all districts is the almost complete freedom from bunt, or stinking smut infection. This triumph for science was achieved by the investigatipns of Dr Darnell-Smith, of Sydney. The tests ran through several years before the result was placed in the hands of the farmers. The Telegraph adds that with this year’s results before them probably 90 per cent, of the farmers are satisfied that the bunt enemy is quite at their mercy.
