The results of the play on the first day of the Now Zealand basketball tournament are: Wellington 41, Otago 11; Ashburton 28, Canterbury 24, Southland 85, Hawke’s Bay 21: Wellington 66, Ashburton 12, Canterbury 24, Hawke's Bay 18,, Auckland 55, Otago 26. Weismuller added a third world’s record to his credit when he swam 220yds in 2min 13 3-ssec.—Sydney Sun Cable. TECHNICAL COLLEGE TOURNAMENT. (Per United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, August 29. At the Technical College tournament the Christchurch ladies’ hockey team defeated Otago by 2 goals to nil. The weather was ideal, but the ground was somewhat rough. Just before the conclusion the Otago captain (Miss Carman) received a blow on the head, which necessitated her leaving the field. In the football match Christchurch defeated Dunedin by -43 points to 3. The winners were heavier and faster than their opponents, who lacked combination and were weak on defence. For the winners Forbes (2), French 121, Blackaby, Hill, Johansen, Qnaid and Burgess got tries, Blackabv jjjso potting a goal and Johansen kicking” a penalty. Johansen converted three tries and French one. For Dunedin Robertson scored an unconverted try.
