PRETTY VEST FOR OPEN JUMPER.

This useful and dainty little finish- to the toilette has been very popular among elderly women who, very rightly, leave the bare chest to their young friends. This vest is quickly and easily made, and two or three can be completed in as many hours'. One hank of silk knits two vests, and although ream or ivory is usually chosen any other colour may be used. Some people prefer the colour to match . the dress or jumper; others' like a contrast. Cast on CO stitches, using long steel needles, and knit one row plain and one row purl for nine inches; then divide into three, knit 20 stitches, cast off 20, a. d put 20 on a thread. Join the silk and knit for seven inches; cast off pick up the stitches on the other side, and knit the same as for the first side. Now pick up the stitches for the neck and knit the width of collar desired; it is fastened at the back with dress fasteners.
