BOWLING.

EASTER TOURNAMENT. SINGLES COMPETITION. foster and tonkin in final RINKS GAMES STARTED. The annual Easter tournament held by the Dunedin Bowling Centre waa started on Thursday, and was continued yesterdayWhen play waa commenced on Thursday the weather waa fine, but it took a change for the worse during the day. Several showers of rain fell, and the conditions in the afternoon were anything but pleasant for bowling, but fortunately they were not bad enough to interfere with the progress of the games to any material extent. Thursday’s play waa devoted to the singles, which were played on the Roslyn, Caversham, and Caledonian greens in the early stages. After the section winners had j)layed one round of their games play was transferred to the Dunedin green, and a fresh draw was made. Good progress was made with the games, and the competition has now reached the_ stage that only the final has to be decided. This will be contested by two well-known champions—W. Foster (Caledonian) and J. Tonkin (North-East Valley). As usual, the arrangements made for the conduct of the tournament were of the best, and everything ran perfectly. Mr R. Hanning (secretary of the Bowling Centre) supervised things generally. The duties of umpires in the singles were carried out by Mr J. C. Whitelaw on tb'e Caledonian green, by Mr W. J. Worthington on the Roslyn green, and by Measrs J. Tonkin and W. Orchard on the Caversham green. The umpires for the rinks were:— Mr J. 0. Whitelaw, Caledonian green; Ms, D. Cormack, Roslyn green: Mr A. Mitchell, Caversham green; and Mr H. Rowley, Balmacewen green. The following are the results: — SINGLES. CALEDONIAN GREEN. SECTION A. First Round. Y. The rinks competition was started yesterday morning on the Caversham, Caledonian, Roslyn, and Balmacewen Greens. A little rain fell occasionally, but there was t not sufficient to interfere with the progress of the games. A bitterly cold wind prevailed, however, especially in the afternoon, making matters unpleasant for both the players and the spectators. The games were continued until about 6 o’clock in cases where it was necessary to play off to find section winners. All the greens were in good order, but the weather made accurate bowling a matter of considerable difficulty at times. The following are the results: — CALEDONIAN GREEN. SECTION A. First Round. G.
